Hey guys!! I'm Hannah, a high school senior in Tucson, Arizona. I began working out and eating right in 2016 at the age of 13 when teenage insecurity started setting in. I realized that if I wanted to stay happy and confident, I needed to change something: my mindset or my lifestyle. I opted for the latter and gave up late-night candy hauls and inactivity for calorie tracking and weightlifting. Over time, I've learned to balance the need for perfection with the need for joyful living, so here I am today: consistent, flawed, and happy-as-can-be. I began this blog to share with you my story and to convince you that there is no wrong time to embark on your fitness journey, and that you CAN make it to where you want to be.
A little bit about me personally
First and foremost, I'm a student. I highly value my education and do my best to always make school a priority. At every opportunity, I challenge myself with Advanced Placement classes and extracurricular activities. Next year, I will be a wildcat! Starting fall of 2021, I will be attending the University of Arizona Honors College as a double major in business and engineering managment. As education is one of my passions, I hope to make a difference in the lives of many other young individuals by promoting STEM and other educational opportunities with my future engineering management career.
Another big passion of mine is music. I'm a huuuuge rock 'n' roll fan, and listen to it almost 24/7. I attend concerts whenever I can (unfortunately, COVID has put a pretty big hole in my life where live shows used to be) and am building up a small vinyl collection. While my music preferences have changed over time, my current favorite subgenres are modern blues rock and post grunge, including artists like Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown, Rival Sons, Buckcherry, Greta Van Fleet, Shinedown, and The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, among MANY others.
I also love spending time with my family and friends. While not a big partier, small group gatherings to play games, make jokes, watch a movie, or chat are some of my favorite places to be. I've also been very fortunate to have a family that travels frequently and have subsequently been able to experience the world; some of my favorite cities being Seattle, New York City, Anchorage, Lucerne, Prague, Barcelona, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, and London.
When by myself, besides studying for tests or listening to music, I enjoy reading or watching TV. I love a good dystopian novel—The Testing and Delirium series are two of my favorites—and for television series and movies, I don't think you can go wrong with a suspenseful psychological thriller or drama—Breaking Bad, Ozark, Weeds, Silicon Valley, Dexter, Memento, Se7en, The Usual Suspects, Silence of the Lambs, and The Shawshank Redemption are all incredible.
And of course, I'm an athlete. I participated in soccer, track (hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m), basketball, and more before I landed on bodybuilding. While on a daily basis, I work on maintaining my fitness through lifting, cardio, and nutrition tracking, in 2018, I competed in my first fitness competition. At the NPC Megatron, I was the youngest competitor at 15 years old, and competed in both the Teen Figure and Novice Figure divisions. While I have not taken part in a bodybuilding competition since, I look forward to doing so again some day (hopefully soon). But until then, I'll keep building muscle, staying in shape, and sharing my fitness story and tips with you!
